When the municipality says no

Red houses with white corners in traditional Dala style. That's how the neighboring houses look in the idyllic Hjortnäs where Helena and Joakim bought a plot to build their dream holiday home on. They wanted a house with large glass sections, sliding doors and a weathered wooden roof.

The municipality rejected their first application with the justification that it differed too much from the existing buildings. Helena and Joakim then became aware of Sommarnöjen and the houses in the classic design with large glass doors with genuine wiener glazing bars.

"They chose Sommarnöjen because it was well priced and came turnkey," says Joakim.

Helena and Joakim, who normally live in Uppsala, did not have the opportunity to be on site in Dalarna very often during the construction process and therefore chose a turnkey contract.

Sommarnöjen arranged the electrical lines, groundwater, connections and everything else related to building a house. This way they could be involved to the extent they had the time and desire.

The necessary changes to the house were developed by Sommarnöjen's architects in close consultation with Helena and Joakim. In the end the house became red with windows with glazing bars and a panel roof in heartwood pine. The entire front is still clad in glass, but with proper doors.

The house is 70 sqm in size, with a loft of 20 sqm. They have a kitchen, a larger bedroom and two guest rooms with built-in bunk beds. Read more about Classic Sommar 70 here. The whole house is made of wood, except for the stone tiles in the bathroom.

"It is extremely space-efficient," describes Joakim. "And smells wonderful of fresh wood throughout the house when you enter."
