A house on Husarö
Sommarnöjen began with a house on Husarö in the Stockholm archipelago. Since then, the business has grown step by step – from individual summer house projects to a company that delivers homes every week, all year round.
In 2005, Tomas Riesenberg Tjajkovski initiated his own summer house project on the island. The home was shaped by the place – the rocks, the light from the sea and the exposed coastal climate. The architecture was simple, built in natural materials and designed to age beautifully in the landscape.
The project became the starting point for an approach in which architecture, materials and landscape were intrinsically connected, as Tomas began developing more house projects in the archipelago, together with Karin Wiljander. What began as a series of individual commissions gradually grew into the company Sommarnöjen.
The first projects 2005
Designing and building individual summer houses for archipelago settings was the primary focus in the early years. The homes were characterised by subtle proportions, natural materials and an architecture that took the location as its starting point.
Several projects were carried out in exposed coastal locations where the climate demanded high standards of construction and materials. The experience gained from these projects would go on to shape how our later houses were developed.
Factory-built houses 2014
In 2014, Sommarnöjen introduced a collection of factory-built holiday homes under the name Sommar. The houses were developed to be built indoors under controlled conditions and delivered complete to the customer’s site.
This new way of working made it possible to combine architecture and craftsmanship with an efficient building process. The houses could be produced with high precision and a shorter construction time, while reducing the impact on the natural environment at the building site.
Sweden’s first Attefall house, 2014
In the same year, Sommarnöjen developed Sweden’s first Attefall house together with architect Thomas Sandell. When the new legislation on permitted development was presented, the home was premièred on Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm by housing minister Stefan Attefall himself, the man after whom these small ancillary buildings were named.
Since then, the Attefall house models have become an important part of the company’s range.
A wider range and a factory of our own 2017–2020
Over the following years, the holiday home range expanded to include larger models of up to 150 square metres, new architectural styles and more interior options.
In 2020, Sommarnöjen opened its very own housebuilding factory, bringing design, purchasing and production together under one same roof for full control over quality and deliveries.
A growing organisation 2021–2023
As the business grew, the organisation took on more architects, structural engineers, project managers and specialists, as well as bringing experts in interior design and garden design into the company.
At the same time, the delivery organisation was developed to be able to carry out more projects in complex environments and to make the building process easier for customers.
New initiatives 2024–2026
2024 saw the acquisition of Extrahuset, a company specialising in functional ancillary buildings, resulting in a widened range with production moved to Sommarnöjen’s factory.
In 2025, Sweden’s first Attefall house under the new rules on 50 sqm of permitted development was unveiled – again on Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm, this time by housing minister Andreas Carlson.
During this same period, demand from international customers increased and projects began to be carried out in Denmark, Finland and Norway as well.
In 2026, the Klara Fjällhus brand was also launched, offering houses developed for an active life in the mountains.
Present day
Today, Sommarnöjen delivers homes every week, all year round – by the sea, in the archipelago, in the countryside and in the mountains.
The company has completed projects for over a thousand customers since it was founded, many of whom continue to stay in touch with us after moving in. Over 150 are also willing to open their homes to show them to new customers.
Sommarnöjen is still 100% partner-owned and all partners work in the business. We have no financial owners, no venture capital firms and no debt. This gives us a long-term perspective – on both the houses and the relationships we build.
