The ski cabin in Storhogna

The love of the Swedish mountains is an eternal romance for Malin and Kristian Gustafsson. Over the years there have been many trips to, among others, Jämtlandsfjällen and Ljungdalsfjällen – because it is primarily in sportswear that the couple draw strength and energy.

They chose Vemdalen

Over time the idea of getting their own ski cabin in the mountains was born, where Storhogna in Vemdalen proved to be the perfect choice. Kristian has been coming here in the winters since childhood, a place where they have found everything they are looking for with fantastic skiing in winter and activities like running and hiking during the summer:

– Storhogna is truly the heart of Vemdalen and our starting point for all the outdoor adventures we want to experience. This is a place that invites activity and movement and where there is something for everyone. That was important to us, to find a place where we could do everything we love year-round, says Kristian.

At the treeline beside Högtelen

When Malin and Kristian began looking at cabins in the area, however, they had difficulty finding anything that suited them, both in terms of location and the design of the cabins. Then the couple saw a mountain plot just below the treeline, with wise trees that have stood firm for several centuries among the wild berry bushes:

– We immediately felt that it was the plot for us. In Storhogna near the treeline, the trees grow incredibly slowly, which gives the nature a special character. Many of the spruces that are here are very old and can be as much as 200 years old.

Tidlös Sommar 50 with interior style Calm

From the start the plan was to build turnkey, where Sommarnöjen was actually the first option that they also "fell for" immediately, explains Malin:

– We still wanted to meet other house suppliers, but didn't at all feel that it felt right in the same way. Listening to our gut and choosing Sommarnöjen was truly the right decision for us, both in terms of quality and service but also the entire execution until the cabin was in place.

Both Malin and Kristian live by the minimalist motto that life becomes simpler the fewer objects are in the home. With the model Tidlös Sommar 50 the couple got exactly as much space as they needed, where the Berg floor plan was adapted to cover their needs and active lifestyle. For that, the interior style Calm was chosen, with fine-sawn wood paneling in matte white on walls and ceiling.

Practical entrance hall with tile flooring and good storage

In addition to adding a sauna to the bathroom, the hall was also widened, with plenty of room for ski boots and other equipment. Tile flooring was also laid here to make the floor more durable:

– It is an incredibly well-planned hall with a drying cabinet, washing machine and boot dryer where we really got help from Sommarnöjen to fit everything we needed. The hall is not cramped, even though we have all our activity equipment here. The storage is very carefully planned, which makes it still feel spacious and easy to clean, says Malin.

Positioned with the possibility to add an extension

When the house was assembled in late summer 2021 the couple had found an optimal placement on the plot to leave room for future building projects, without for that matter obscuring the view:

– At first we were a bit inclined to add an Attefall house, but now that we have spent some time here we rather feel that an extension could become relevant with a detached sleeping wing linked to the main building. Then the current cabin can become more of an activity area with life and movement in the kitchen and living room, Kristian explains.

Thoughtful and high quality

Stepping into your house for the first time he describes as “fantastic”, a feeling they still experience every time they go up to the cabin from Stockholm:

– It almost feels unreal that this is our cabin when I see the beautiful view outside with the unbroken horizon.

Malin adds:

– We love coming into the cabin after a day on the mountain when the sun puts on a show before saying thanks and goodbye for the day.
