The Last Outpost

The children remember the summers as a constant search for the perfect plot for the family's country home. The dream was that it would be located by the sea. After eighteen years Therese and Fredrik found the perfect spot. Today they spend the summers at the last outpost before the sea takes over.

The plot was located on a peninsula north of Hudiksvall, far from the family's home. They had had the plans ready for a long time but if they were to build the house in their spare time it would have taken them several more years to finish. Instead they began a search for someone who could help them get their longed-for holiday home.

For several years Therese had been scouring various house suppliers' websites in search of a holiday home with the perfect floor plan. When she found Sommar 70 Hav in Modern design, which also did not need to be built on-site but was delivered turnkey, the search was over.

The floor plan resembled the one she had drawn herself a long time ago. Only the kitchen was "backwards" but it was easy to change. It focused on efficient function and the natural materials were of high quality, two things that are important to the family.

They scheduled a meeting and just in time for Midsummer one year later the house was in place.

"We stepped in and the reading lamp worked," Therese recounts. "If we had done it ourselves we would have had to live by flashlight for a year. Now it was just to start living."

In the dream of their own holiday home there was also an outdoor kitchen. By moving the kitchen to the large glass section on one short side they got the same feeling as if they were outdoors. The view became endless with the sea right outside and nature close at hand. In addition to a living room and a bathroom with a proper shower they have three bedrooms. The children, who have grown up, appreciate being able to close themselves off sometimes. The possibility of privacy makes them want to be there even more.

Previously their free time had been filled with things to fix. Today they spend it with a book on the deck, fishing and socializing with the children. It is very different from the summers when they chased the dream of their own summer house. Finally they get time to relax.
