The green gem in the garden

In Rönninge in southern Stockholm, nature is constantly present. Within the municipality of Salem there is the most protected natural land in the entire country and it is here, among nature reserves and sparkling lakes, that the parents of young children Geoff and Emelie live.

– Rönninge really has that small-town feel with lots of nature and many older houses. It is very family-friendly, says Geoff.

Emelie's family has lived in Rönninge for four generations and Geoff himself moved here from London when the covid pandemic hit. The couple then bought a classic turn-of-the-century house with a large accompanying plot and it did not take long before Geoff fell in love with both the area and Swedish architecture:

– I love traditional Swedish houses. They are wonderful family homes with lots of natural light and well-thought-out layouts.

Seclusion and calm with Tidlös Sommar Duo

A couple of times a year the couple are visited by Geoff's parents from Canada, longer visits that inspired them to create additional living space on the plot. Now they saw the opportunity to erect a comfortable and fully equipped solution that both family and other guests could enjoy:

– Since our house dates from 1912 and needs some renovation, we wanted a simple, hassle-free and modern dwelling that would blend into the plot and with the other nearby houses, explains Geoff.

In their searches the couple early on landed on Sommarnöjen, precisely because of the house models' simple yet modern design. When it came to choosing a model, the choice was, however, simple. With its L-shape, Tidlös Sommar Duo 80 seemed made for the plot, where the large sliding doors could open up to the garden's greenery while the model enabled seclusion and calm with an embedded placement.

Maximum space with minimal impact

Placing the house well on the plot was Geoff and Emelie's most important requirement. The land previously belonged to a gardening-enthusiast family, where the passion for cultivation and plant life still lives on today through rare trees, flower beds and wild berry bushes:

– That was the most important thing for us, to maximize the space while minimizing the house's impact on the plot. We quite quickly decided on Duo in dialogue with Sommarnöjen, precisely to achieve a secluded placement on the plot, says Geoff.

To blend in with the plot's trees the house was given a dark green facade and roof, in combination with the interior style Calm where a wall between the entrance and the kitchen was removed. The washing machine and tumble dryer were moved from the bathroom to the hall to make room for a bathtub, a special solution with Geoff's mother in mind who is particularly fond of long baths.

When it was time for the house to be installed in spring 2025 the couple had some fears about damage to the property's trees, a worry which, according to Geoff, would prove unfounded:

– Sommarnöjen did a fantastic job and installed it in just a few hours. It was an incredible feeling to pick up my son from preschool and show him the house that was finished when he was done for the day.

Since then the green guest house has been used frequently, with a big thumbs up from the long-distance visitors:rn– My parents love the house and it means so much to us to be able to offer them a comfortable place to stay when they are here. Now they can enjoy both family time and private seclusion, says Geoff and continues:rn– Especially in the summer when the trees' foliage is in bloom the house is like a hidden little gem on the property.rnAs parents of young children with energy to spare, the sliding glass doors have become a particularly appreciated feature:rn– With the sliding doors that open out onto the deck you get a view over the whole property. It creates a large social area for us to spend time together, while we can see where the children are when they play.
