The creative sanctuary

Ingela and Peter had long dreamed of a proper holiday home to escape to from city life. They no longer wanted a draughty little cottage. One of their friends, who is also an architect, helped them draw the house they wanted. But the project grew and grew until it had become too big for them to manage on their own. Then they found Sommarnöjen.

The houses that Sommarnöjen builds were in the same style as the house they themselves had had drawn. The floor plans were a touch smarter with a "compact living" feel, where functions were placed more efficiently on the available area. In addition, it was a much easier way for Ingela and Peter to actually get the holiday home they wanted.

Sommarnöjen could take over the entire process with groundwork, transports and other otherwise invisible parts of building a house and they could sit back. On Christmas Day 2017 they contacted them for the first time and a few days later they had an initial meeting.

Sommar 90 was the house model that most resembled their own. They then made a few changes to the house so that it would suit them perfectly. The plot is located on Yxlan in Stockholms skärgård and that required the house to be adapted to be placed on the plot's highest point, which was also rocky in character. In addition, they chose to remove window sections to have more wall in the living room. A stove was also chosen to raise the cozy factor when they are in the house during winter.

For Ingela, who is a freelance illustrator, the holiday home, with its close connection to nature, has been a pleasure to furnish. The floor in the living room continues out over the moss-covered rock and with the large glass sections, nature is present everywhere. From the kitchen they can look out over the bay a few hundred meters away.

The proximity to nature is reflected in the interior where the lounge area's ceiling lamp resembles a large pine cone. Functional parts of the house have also been used creatively. The living room has a high ceiling and the ceiling beam that runs through the room has been adorned with glass ornaments in colored hues. For Peter, who is a screenwriter, the house is the perfect retreat.

Ingela and Peter have been able to make the holiday home entirely their own, despite choosing an already pre-drawn house. With the possibility to choose style and make individual changes to the house, it became as if it had been drawn just for them.

The process simply became much easier, because Sommarnöjen took over the entire project. Instead, Ingela and Peter could enjoy participating as much as they wanted, before they fled the city on their first staycation.
