The creative atelier

The sunlight streams through the house's finely divided glass front and hits the green plants. It smells of damp earth. Lobed leaves from Monstera mix with palm-like Dracena and branched fiddle‑leaf figs.

We are located a few kilometers from central Stockholm but here peace and quiet reign. The new Attefall house feels like an orangery and is a welcome addition to the family's beautiful main building. The expression is even more open than the base model of Sommar 25. The family added more glass surfaces to make the space feel larger. ”Small houses can otherwise become very much like a box”, says Lukas.

The house faces north and the glass front is a way to capture as much light as possible. This is important for Lukas, who needs plenty of light when he works. The Attefall house is intended as a workspace for Lukas, who is a leadership consultant. There was not enough space in the 1920s house to be able to work. It becomes especially cramped with small children. The solution was to extend and build a separate office.

Although the need for the extra space was great, Lukas did not have the time either to plan the house in detail or to oversee a build. Having Sommarnöjen take care of the whole project meant it cost a little more, but it relieved the family and gave them a functioning everyday life.

The family chose a house with a loft and a bathroom to be able to offer a separate house to friends who come to visit. However, they chose to forego a kitchen as they prefer the freedom to use the space in a way that responds to their current needs and to wait with installing a kitchen until the day it is actually needed. Everything is, however, prepared so that a kitchen can be placed there when the day comes.

It was also important to them that the house had an aesthetic that matched the main building. Having a house supplier with a sense of good taste became a central part when they made their choice.

”Sommarnöjen is a supplier with a sense for what is stylish,” says Lukas.

The courtyard around the home office has been covered with gravel and lush plants have been planted. Trees reach up to the sky and grow protectively around the house. The greenery is continuous, from the tall trees to the green-painted house walls and the thriving plants inside the glass front. Inside the lush oasis Lukas finds peace for creative thinking.
