The author's longing

A modern house with a lot of space – that was the result when the award-winning author Geir Gulliksen had a house built from Sommarnöjen on the Swedish west coast.

Geir Gulliksen is one of Norway's leading authors. Here in Sweden he made his breakthrough with 'Berättelse om ett äktenskap'. Gulliksen's future novels about relationships will partly be written on Swedish soil. For some time now he and his family have been spending a lot of time in Tanumshede on the west coast.

"We found a plot there two years ago and not long after that we discovered Sommarnöjen, which has very nice houses," says Geir Gulliksen.

The result is a 40-square-meter house in a modern design.

"I like modern houses with lots of space and large windows. That's why, among other things, we've raised the ceiling a little. The house blends with the nature in a nice way. In addition we've built a wooden deck and thus created a large outdoor room."rnGulliksen's house is located 300 meters from the water. "For 55 years I have longed to be able to go down to the water, lie in my kayak and paddle for a while," says Gulliksen.

Oiled plywood gives the house character

The family has chosen the Rå interior style, for its simplicity and its many woodwork details. The idea is that the house will be used year-round, both for relaxation and work. The house has two bedrooms, one at each end, and one of them also functions as a study.rnThere is a desk that faces the forest, toward a pine and a small rock. "That view is actually better when you are going to write; it is less demanding than a long view over the sea."
