Relaxed archipelago life on Möja

After Eva and Jesper moved from Stockholmstrakten, their cottage on Möja has become even more important. The second home in the archipelago allows them to return to the environment where they grew up. And with a comfortable little house as a base, their children are also drawn to archipelago life.

Eva and Jesper were among the very first to order a prefabricated house from Sommarnöjens new house collection Sommar. On the archipelago island Möja stands their classic Sommar 60, surrounded by grazing sheep. Even though it is new and fully equipped, the house gives a feeling of the turn of the last century. The wooden cladding is painted in falun red tar paint, Wiener-style glazing bars were chosen for the windows and the roof is covered with red-tarred durable heartwood. In this way, the new holiday home becomes a natural part of Möja's uniform village settlement. For the same reason they chose discreet classic double doors instead of large sliding glass sections.

The house's layout is simple and has large, open spaces. The kitchen and the living room are particularly airy, with the dining area overlooking the meadows and the archipelago forest. The terrace faces south, and its elevated position means it is private.

"We thought it was fun to be able to stick to what the architect drew. It was well thought-out from the start."

The kitchen is small in area, yet it has space for everything needed. It has fine carpentry in solid wood as part of the interior. The bedrooms resemble small galleys and for guests they have a sleeping loft. Storage is conveniently built into the house.

"It's like a boat, but on land," describes Eva.

They have furnished with furniture from Jesper's childhood home in Roslagen and flea-market finds they've made on Möja. The kitchen chairs used to belong to an old archipelago school. The sparse interior makes cleaning quick and gives more time for relaxation. Both Eva and Jesper grew up in the archipelago and are used to a life by the water. Boating, paddling and windsurfing are natural activities for them. With a second home in the archipelago, it naturally passes on to the next generation as well.
