From finance to terry cloth

Karin needed a space to realize her dream of running her own company alongside her job as a financial adviser. When she contacted Sommarnöjen her vision was a practical office and storage. In the end the whole family gained a new favorite place.

Karin started Kate Kae to inspire more people to make healthy and sustainable choices of bed linen, towels and textiles. Her products have a classic design and are made of 100 % organic cotton. They are certified by Fairtrade and have the strictest safety and environmental protection classification in the world, GOTS, which also takes social responsibility in production into account.

To run the company she needed a functional and secluded workplace. In the long run it would be expensive to rent a good office space. Therefore the idea of an Attefall house on the plot arose. That way Karin would also be close to home.

"It feels so nice when I close the door behind me", Karin says. "The silence and calm that comes is so lovely. I hope it will let creativity flow."

The Tegnér family visited several suppliers of Attefall houses before they decided. The quality of Sommarnöjen's natural materials weighed heavily, as did the possibility to adapt the house to their needs.

Along one wall they have arranged practical storage of Kate Kae's range. The bed linens and towels are neatly folded, sorted by color scale.

The family decided on Tidlös Sommar 25 with a black-painted facade and black window sections. Even though the main building is white the Attefall house fits well on the plot.

"We wanted to avoid summer cottage vibes", Karin says. "Inside we chose smooth, white walls and ceilings instead of wood paneling."

Although the original idea for the Attefall house was that it would be used as office space they have discovered how versatile a 25 sqm house can be. If it's built in a smart way the uses can easily shift according to needs. The children often hang out there with friends or Karin brings the pilates mat out to train. They also plan to put up rings in the ceiling.

"It really is a multifunctional house, even if it wasn't the original idea."

In the future they can imagine renting out the house. Therefore they chose to equip it fully with a bathroom, kitchen and sleeping loft. But the layout was adapted to Karin's needs. The eldest daughter has however already claimed it to move out to the house when she grows older.

When they want a breather from everyday life the whole family usually gathers in their new little house. By the light of lit candles they like to play board games. An office space that becomes a cozy summer house for an evening.
