Everything in a limited space

Ljusterö is a lively island and a hub for many smaller islands in Stockholms northern archipelago. But as soon as the car turns off the only main road the landscape opens up and becomes surprisingly calm and rural. Farmland stretches out on both sides. Not far from the sea lies Maria and Anders' new holiday home. On an old field, behind pastures with grazing animals. It is 50 sqm in size, like two Attefallshus in one.

Initially, Maria and Anders wanted even more space. It was important to them to both be able to offer generous sleeping space for friends and give the growing children room, but financially it did not add up. The challenge became to reconcile the need for space with the available area, without having to compromise on style and form. The family's customized Sommar 50 has two bedrooms, a loft, kitchen, bathroom and a living room with a wood-burning stove. The children share a bedroom, which the family finds cozy and fitting for a country retreat. The loft can be used by overnight guests or for storage.

To put a personal stamp on the interior they have chosen a beautiful cool light green hue for the woodwork in the kitchen and bathroom and Anders has built an old-fashioned pantry.

When friends visit it is mainly the proportions of the house that receive a lot of praise. The house is experienced as harmonious both as a whole and in all the small details. The living room's impressive glass panels also attract many glances. There the family looks forward to more cozy evenings with a deck of cards and board games close at hand.

"It looks like a painting when you look out," Maria describes.
