Double up at Dammsjön

Finding the perfect plot for the holiday home can take time. Västerås residents Lina Lennartsson and Dennis Peters attended viewings for several years before they bought a piece of land in the small village of Barkhyttan in Hofors.

The large lakeside plot, located among picturesque farmhouses and rural nature, really had everything they had been looking for with its unbeatable view of Dammsjön:

– It’s incredibly beautiful here. We hardly have any land behind us; most of it lies along the water’s edge with birch woodland around, says Lina.

When the deal was finalized there was already an older cottage on the plot that they planned to demolish in the future, but shortly after the purchase the area was hit by a flood that heavily water-damaged the property. The couple now needed to quickly begin demolition and replace the cottage with a new dwelling.

Buying turnkey was a given from the start and together Lina and Dennis looked at several different companies. After visiting one of Sommarnöjens show houses it felt obvious that it was precisely Sommarnöjen that would suit their lakeside plot best:

We wanted a modern house that could still blend into the rural surroundings here. There are admittedly many firms that have similar models, but we thought Sommarnöjen’s craftsmanship was so solid and stylish. Because we wanted to include the entire lake in our view we settled on the Hav layout.

A spacious house with large social areas was an important requirement when the family’s two children suddenly became four after the couple had twins – plenty of room was needed here for the whole brood as well as visiting relatives and friends. Due to local building regulations the new house could not exceed 80 square meters, something they solved by ordering Klassisk Sommar 80 and Klassiskt Bastuhus 30, both in a Falun red facade color.

As a customer of Sommarnöjen there is the option to add the Totalansvar service, which means that Sommarnöjen is responsible for the entire contract work for the house. Since Dennis runs an earthworks company the couple chose to handle that part themselves, a process that proved to be somewhat of a challenge, Lina tells:

– The ground was incredibly wet, so it felt like we had to drive piles for an eternity. That is advice I want to give to others looking for a plot, to also investigate the soil quality.

When the two houses were delivered it went quickly, faster than the couple had expected. Already after six working days the buildings stood in place, ready to be filled with life and joy.

In the attefallshuset the size of both the sauna and the bathroom was increased and a wall was installed in the living room to give privacy to overnight guests. In the big house’s kitchen a linden-blossom green color was chosen with open shelving, but otherwise the couple have not made any major individual selections to the interior style Lugn.

Between the buildings Lina and Dennis have built an outdoor patio to create an extra room that connects the two houses. Here they can keep their shoes dry in the summers and simply enjoy the nature and the tranquility while evening meals are prepared in the outdoor kitchen. As the last plot along the gravel road there are no other houses nearby – the closest neighbor is a family of beavers that presumably are busy with their own building projects:

– Just being here over the weekend is like going on holiday. It feels incredibly luxurious to be able to come here and unwind. Everyone says that the houses are so nicely constructed and that they fit so well into the area. I especially love the wiener glazing bars that Klassisk Sommar has; it’s as if the houses are adorned with little pictures, says Lina.
