Designed for the west coast

For Jenny, Mollösund on Orust means long childhood summers and total relaxation. When the old house next to her parents was put up for sale fifteen years ago, she and her husband Jonas bought their own summer retreat.

The couple considered many options for replacing the older existing house. In fact it took almost ten years to reach a decision.

”The reason we chose Sommarnöjen was that everything was well thought-out. For us it was valuable not to have to worry about tiles and cabinet doors and instead to get a homogeneous solution with fine details that matched,” Jonas explains. ”Sommarnöjens solid materials also made the choice easier”.

At the same time, Jenny and Jonas were not free to choose any house. As in many places on the west coast there were detailed rules about how new houses should look – such as size, roof pitch, facade color and roof material. Sommarnöjens architect studied the detailed development plan and previous decisions, spoke with the municipality and visited the site to understand the family's wishes.

”Houses here must have tiled roofs and a white facade and a certain roof pitch,” Jonas continues. ”Sommarnöjen helped meet these requirements and adjusted the roof pitch and when that was done the municipality approved the building permit and we could get started”.

There are now two houses on the plot, the larger Tidlös Sommar 90 and an Attefallshus in the same design. ”We decided early that we wanted an Attefallshus adjacent to the larger house” says Jonas. The Attefallshus has two bedrooms with a bathroom between them. ”So now our two teenage sons have their own house”.

The larger house has a layout with a large living area and kitchen in the front part and bedrooms and bathroom in the rear part. The large sliding glass panels in the front make it easy for the family to open up towards the patio and the Attefallshus and create a unity.

Now the family is building an outdoor kitchen on the deck and looks forward to a long summer in their summer retreat.
