Low-key dream in Blekinge
On Aspö in the Blekinge archipelago lies Ingrid and Erik's low-key summer retreat. With its narrow and low profile the house blends perfectly into the surrounding environment. The model is called Tidlös Sommar 90 Äng and the facade will be treated with iron vitriol later.
When the family saw a spot nearby a few years ago they got in touch with a local landowner. He offered them to buy a plot that was not yet for sale and so the dreams of having their own place on Aspö took off.
The house on Aspö would become the family's third holiday home. The experience meant that they knew exactly what they wanted from their new country home. Erik and Ingrid sketched house ideas themselves and discussed with architects how to design their next residence. But nothing felt quite right.
Erik and Ingrid had previously been considering Sommarnöjen and when they now started looking more closely and found the floor plan Äng everything fell into place.
”We thought Sommarnöjen had such a well thought-out idea and we never had to discuss material choices because Sommarnöjen had already made such good choices. We had calculated on a house built on site but since we normally live 60 mil away and have jobs that take up a lot of time a turnkey house felt like the best option,” says Erik. ”From nothing to a finished house – it was fantastic,” adds Ingrid.
The plot is long and narrow and the detailed development plan contains restrictions such as that the house must be on one level and the long side placed in a certain direction. Tidlös Sommar 90 with the shifted floor plan Äng fits both the site and the municipality's requirements.
”The house model is not only aesthetically appealing but the offset also provides sheltered positions that we really want since the plot lies by the sea,” says Ingrid. ”The municipality was fantastically easy to deal with and they also liked the house, which they felt was assertive but in a low-key way.”
The room layout was adapted to the family's wishes. ”We chose to reduce the size of the bedrooms in favor of a pantry that we know from experience is needed on an island,” says Erik.
The family wants to spend time in the house year-round. Therefore it was also important that the communal spaces were given room, something the open plan in the kitchen and living room invites.
