An eel shed to live in

Anna and Marcus have walked along havet in Maglehem for many summers. On the shoreline stand the traditional eel sheds in small groups. The sheds have simple elongated volumes and high gable roofs. When they were going to build their own house, the inspiration came precisely from the simple buildings on the beach.

Anna and Marcus were attracted to Sommarnöjens architecture with clear graphic forms. A Tidlös Sommar 50 with a beautiful gable roof and lots of natural light was the house that most resembled the vision they saw in front of them. But to get exactly what they wanted the floor plan needed to be changed. Together with our architects the Sommar 50 was redrawn to fit the traditional buildings.

The house was extended to emphasize the elongated shape and the area ended up at 56 sqm. The living room and kitchen were extended in the redrawn floor plan, but the bedrooms also became more spacious. To get more height in the sleeping loft the roof height was raised by 30 cm. The roof covering is slate granulate and the exterior walls were painted black. The modern impression is reinforced by the fact that half the house is glass. It adds another dimension.

– "It is a house that differs from other houses in Maglehem, while at the same time it reminds one of the small eel sheds", says Marcus.

The plot is located in a sand forest surrounded by tall pines, just 600 meters from havet. The place was familiar beforehand because Anna is from there, but now they can experience it in a different way. The wide glazed sections are cozy to hide behind when the wind blows as it can do in places near havet.

– "The house is unassuming, but when you study the details you can see that it is well made. The time spent on material choices makes the house feel cohesive."

It was important to them that their house supplier could take care of everything and truly deliver a turnkey house. Anna and Marcus live, after all, 600 km from their country home and did not have the opportunity to go there and prepare.

Now they have also chosen to hire Sommarnöjen to build a deck for the house. It will go all the way around and from every room there is a glass door leading out. Because they want to be as close to the beautiful surroundings as possible. The tall pines, the pale sand dunes – and the eel sheds of course.
