Pre-baked guesthouse

Pierre and Ann-Mari have owned a summer house on Ingarö outside Stockholm for many years. When their children had children of their own they lacked a guesthouse so everyone would have room. But building the house on site would prove to be time-consuming – discussing details endlessly was nearly breaking them. Then they found Sommarnöjen.

– With Sommarnöjen we quickly understood that the business idea was to create simple and ready-made solutions. That attracted us because then we could focus on what we really enjoy, namely color, shape and interior design, Pierre explains.

The main house on the plot is log-built, quite dark with leaded windows. Pierre's and Ann-Mari's requirement was that the guest house should be precisely the opposite, with large glazed surfaces and light inside – yet still fit into the countryside nature. The choice finally fell on the architectural style "classic" which was tarred black-brown and given a sliding glass section with individually designed Vienna-style glazing bars. Inside the house they chose the style "calm" with light raw boarding and large windows facing the forest where the light falls nicely between the trees.

– We had to start from various well-thought-out alternatives, which we could influence by moving a wall or a window. All the time we had a dialogue with an architect from Sommarnöjen who helped us. It became a quick process which suited us.

The road up to the plot is difficult and Pierre's condition from the start was that the delivery company must be able to deliver the house all the way. After much communication back and forth the 50 square meter house finally rolled onto the plot in August 2021.

– It was a day of spectacle like no other! Giant cranes and trucks had to make their way through our small community of 70 properties. But after two days the house was in place and ready to move into. Lights, dishwasher, stove, yes everything was in place. Completely incredible!

Pierre says that friends and neighbors have said that it looks as if the guest house has always stood on the plot. It blends in so well with the other buildings.

– The quality is extremely high. It is fine craftsmanship and no sloppiness anywhere. It feels very solid. Our children love it and now they want to come here much more often. They are even beginning to worry that we will choose to move into the guest house ourselves!
