Housing Minister on a visit

Housing Minister Andreas Carlsson visited our Attefallshus to discuss how the regulations concerning Attefallshus are applied by municipalities and County Administrative Boards.

It was valuable to, together with the minister and his experts, go through examples from the hundreds of processes involving building notifications, building permit applications and shoreline protection exemptions that we have handled for our clients. We see how the opportunities for Attefallshus differ depending on where in the country you want to build. Municipalities often make their own and differing interpretations of the exceptions. We went through situations where the County Administrative Boards – with their assignments regarding shoreline protection and landscape protection – make the conditions for Attefallshus and other development unpredictable and often arbitrary.

Based on that, we discussed how the regulations could be made more legally secure and transparent, and less complicated for the individual housebuilder.

This year it is 10 years since we stood on Norrmalmstorg for the first time. Then together with the then Housing Minister, Stefan Attefall, who presented Attefallshus for the first time. The purpose of the law was originally to increase building in Sweden, and ten years after the law was introduced we see not only new ways to build, we see new ways to live.

An Attefallshus is not only a way to increase the value of a property, we have also seen how it has created new ways of living – for example it has become a way for larger families or friends to share the same summer cottage, and it can also be the perfect first home for children who have outgrown their rooms, says Tomas Riesenberg Tjajkovski, founder of Sommarnöjen.
