Sommarnöjen on Hustoppen

Sommarnöjen was born when the entrepreneur Tomas Tjajkovski commissioned Tham & Videgård Arkitektkontor and project manager Peter Erelöf to create his dream country retreat on Husarö. The experience became the start of Sommarnöjen and our Attefallshus.

When Villa Tjajkovski began to be drawn, Tham & Videgård Arkitektkontor were still unknown to most. Martin Videgård himself had grown up on Husarö during the summers and had a personal connection to the place. When he presented his and his colleague Bolle Tham's ideas to Tomas, the architects were given free rein to create a house with few restrictions other than nature.

When the house had been fully drawn, Tomas encountered most of the problems that clients face in the archipelago. Construction firms that did not want to take overall responsibility, offer a fixed price or present a plan for when the house would be finished. When construction got underway, delays, cost increases and difficulties arose that led Tomas to make a difficult decision: to start over.

On the recommendation of the architects he found Peter Erelöf, who for 20 years has helped his clients carry out complex archipelago projects. Peter assisted with planning and personnel – but also with constructive changes to the house that made it easier to build and more sustainable.

A year later the house was finished. Another year later Peter and Tomas started Sommarnöjen together. With a shared vision of making it easier to realize one’s dream country retreat. The first houses were designed by Tham & Videgård Arkitektkontor. All houses built since then have the same approach to site adaptation, materials and craftsmanship as Villa Tjajkovski. The structural engineer, the suppliers and the craftsmen from Villa Tjajkovski still work with Sommarnöjen.

Villa Tjajkovski has been featured in architecture magazines in over 50 countries and has helped put Swedish wooden house architecture on the world map. In 2008 the house was a finalist in Träpriset.
