Art & Design Biennale 2022
The exhibition House by an Architect takes place in the summer of 2022 at the much-talked-about Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale in Finland. Eight architects and designers have been selected to design one house each. Alongside seven individual and site-built creations stands a house that is different. Our house is the only one that is manufactured continuously and can be ordered turnkey to the entire Nordic region.
All houses at the Biennale must be built in a sustainable way and have renewable solar energy from solar panels. They may be a maximum of 30 sqm in size and built entirely of wood. During the day the houses will be used for art exhibitions and in the evenings and nights they are open for both visits and overnight stays. After the Biennale the houses are sold and continue their lives with new owners.
Sommarnöjens house at Fiskars Biennale
The house shown at Fiskars Biennale is one of Sommarnöjens most popular – a complete Attefallshus with timeless architecture and interior style Lugn. The facade and the folded roof in heart pine are treated with green tar paint from Auson. The house has a social living room with a kitchen, one bedroom, a bathroom and extra sleeping places in the loft.
Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale
Unexpected encounters and new concepts were the goal when the design-interested business leader, Kari Korkman founded the festival Helsinki Design Week in 2005. The festival became a success and in 2019 Korkman also founded Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale. Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale offers a meeting place for current issues as well as new and surprising thinking in contemporary art, design and architecture. Through a series of exhibitions the Biennale invites artists, designers, architects and the public and encourages open discussion.
The increased need for small holiday homes is the starting point for one of the initiatives at this year's Biennale – the exhibition House by an architect where we will participate with a house. In addition to the house exhibition there will be two other main exhibitions at this year's Biennale. One is called Knots & Knits and takes its starting point in the design research project U-joints about knots and knitwork. The other exhibition is called Hidden – the shapes of the senses and is organized by the artist cooperative Onoma. It addresses multisensory sensory experiences through the means of art, design and craft.
