What is a summer retreat?

The first time the word summer retreat appears is in A.F. Dalin's Dictionary of the Swedish Language in the 1850s. There it is said that summer retreat is "a place in the country where one spends the summer for one's pleasure." But the phenomenon is older. Already in antiquity those who could chose to balance city life by spending time in the countryside.

At first this was reserved for the well-off and only them. But over time more and more people were able to acquire a second home in the country. A summer retreat. In recent years summer life has changed. New activities and expectations demand more advanced houses, which require their share of work and maintenance. At the same time life in the city has become ever more intense.

So the summer retreats have an important role to fill. In a few fleeting weeks life should catch up. At the same time you are supposed to meet relatives and friends. Then renovations and construction should not take over and steal the air.

We want to restore the summer retreat to what it once was. A pleasure, in summer. Or year-round if you so wish. A place where you can socialize and find time to think an occasional unuseful, and precisely therefore beautiful, thought.
