Our houses are built from Nordic timber species. We do this partly with sustainability in mind and partly so the houses become part of our nature. And simply because we think it is the most beautiful.

Exterior cladding on our holiday homes

Our collection Sommar has a fine, smooth vertical exterior cladding that suits all environments. Vinter has a coarser horizontal cladding with vertical lines that gives a special character. If you wish a special cladding so the house will work together with a nearby house, we can arrange that.

Slam paint or tar paint?

By default the spruce cladding is painted in traditional matte slam paint in Falu red, black or grey. If you want more of a wood feeling and for the grain of the timber to come through, choose Auson's genuine tar paint. It is available in naturally greying tar vitriol and with muted pigments such as black, dark brown, brown, green and Falu red.

Which roof should I choose for my holiday home?

Classic roofing felt is an underrated material that is making a comeback. Today it has very little to do with paper and instead consists of a strong and dense bitumen mat with a surface layer of slate granulate. It lasts a long time, also works on roofs with very low pitch, and has a matte and discreet expression.

If you prefer a sleek metal roof it suits most of our houses. Choose between galvanized sheet or colours that match your other colour choices, such as black, gray, verdigris green or Falu red.

Sommarnöjen has been recognized for houses entirely in wood. Almost half of the houses we build have outer roofs in heartwood pine. This is called a faltak and is a proven building technique. First we lay roofing felt as the waterproof layer. This is then battened up to create a substantial air gap. Finally the heartwood is laid, which over time becomes hard and an extra protection for the waterproofing beneath. Both faltak and exterior cladding are treated with one of Auson's tar paints which gives the house a unified expression. Faltak and metal roofs are available for all our houses except those with the lowest roof pitch.

Houses with low roof pitch can be equipped with sedum roofs or other types of green roofs. And houses with steeper roofs can be fitted with tiled roofs. As these surface layers are sensitive to transport, we deliver the houses with underlay felt and let a local contractor apply the surface layer on site.

Window frames, doors and sliding glass sections on our houses

Many of our customers choose to adapt the colour of external window frames, doors and sliding glass sections to the façade. For example, houses in tar vitriol often look best with windows in the right gray tone, while Falu-red houses with Falu-red windows – and preferably a faltak in Falu-red tar paint – become a beautiful and contemporary interpretation of the traditional red crofter's cottage.
